Mr. William F. Stack, 85, formerly of New York City and Florida, entered Eternal Life peacefully in the care of Celtic Healthcare Hospice inpatient unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre late Friday night following an illness.

Born March 3, 1932 in the Bronx Borough of New York City, William was a son to the late John and Helen (Ryan) Stack.  He was educated in the New York City school system, and later achieved his associates degree from Saint Petersburg College, Florida.  He furthered his education by achieving fire and police training towards his future vocation.

Amid his education, Mr. Stack answered the call to duty and faithfully served our country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Marine Corps, being honorably discharged from duties on November 28, 1952.  He later proudly served with the United States Army, stationed in Germany and earning the rank of Specialist 4th Class at the time of his honorable discharge on April 25, 1961.

An avid historian of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Stack shared many of his personal insights to the war by authoring the book, "Cosgrove's People..Korea and After".  He was the honoree at a book signing event held at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Wilkes-Barre Township.

Until his retirement, Mr. Stack was a police officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  He was also associated with the police and fire departments in Gulfport, Florida.

Locally, he attended Our Lady of Fatima Parish at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre and held membership in the American Legion Post #815 of Wilkes-Barre Township.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John Stack.

Left to cherish his memory is his dear friend, Mrs. Mary Ellen (Petorak) Higdon , her husband Bob and their family of Monroe Township; Jiayi Guo and her husband Feeluing Ng; Kenneth Schuessler and his wife Hui, all of New York City, and Robert Derric of Long Island, New York.

Memorial funeral services for Mr. Stack will be conducted on Saturday with a Funeral Mass at 9:30a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 134 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend J.
