Carol Oliver Obituary

Carol A. (Kuren) Oliver, 73, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life late Thursday evening in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a recent illness.

Born July 22, 1945 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late Francis and Frances (Tomasko) Kuren.  Educated in the city schools, she attended G.A. R. Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.

She previously worshipped at then Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, now Our Lady of Hope in the Heights section of the city.

Until her retirement, Carol was employed as an intake clerk for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Wilkes-Barre.  Prior to that, she worked in the area's local garment industry as a trimmer.

She held membership in the North End Slovak Citizens Club, and in her spare time enjoyed her various trips to regional casinos.  Her family knew never to call when "Wheel of Fortune" or "Jeopardy!" was aired, as they would not hear her voice on the phone.  In her spare time, she enjoyed working her many crossword puzzles to help keep her mind sharp.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Jerome Kuren and by her fiancee, Mr. Kenneth Williams.

Left to mourn her passing are her beloved children, Art A. Oliver and his fiance Sandy Woychik of Wilkes-Barre; Denise M. Raub and her husband David of North Wilkes-Barre and Lisa A. Skoniecki and her husband Brian of Laurel Run; Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Sister, Mrs. Diane Dupak of Pittston Township;  Brothers, Mr. Ronald Christian and his wife Mary of Pittston and Mr. Roger Christian of Edwardsville; Several nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her faithful companion, her cat, Pepper.

Funeral services for Carol will be conducted 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
