Mrs. Eleanor C. (Kutney) Prohaska-Markovch, 96, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life Friday, August 30th in Crowley, Texas following a recent illness.
Born March 3, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was a daughter to the late Adam and Susan (Lazur) Kutney.
Educated in the Township schools, Mrs. Markovich was a member of the 1941 graduating class of the former Wilkes-Barre Township High School.
Previously, she was employed by the J.B. Carr Bakery as a production assistant until the company closed. For several years following, she was employed as a floor supervisor at Ann-Will Garment Company in Kingston.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Edward M. Prohaska in 1970, and later by her second husband, Mr. Paul Markovich in 2012. Also preceding her were a sister, Mrs. Mary Kovalchik and brothers, Steven, Adam and Joseph Kutney.
Following her marriage to Mr. Markovich, they moved to Lauderhill, Florida where she began a second career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed by the Broward County General Hospital until her retirement. In 2010, she and her husband moved to Crowley, Texas for health reasons and to be closer to her son.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Thomas E. Prohaska and his wife Joey of Denton, Texas, along with ten nieces, seven nephews, several great-nieces, great-nephews, fellow colleagues and dear friends.
With respects given to Mrs. Markovich's previous wishes, she generously donated her physical remains to UNT Health Science Center for the purposes of medical research. There will be no formal services at this time.
Following cremation at a date to be determined, memorial inurnment services will be held in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
