Miss Helen Evanik, 88, a resident of Wilkes-Barre Township, fell asleep in the Lord early Friday morning at the family residence with her nephew by her side.

     Born in 1929 in Laurel Run, she was a daughter to the late Charles and Anna (Schulak) Evanik.

     She is remembered as being a loving and caring woman who enjoyed simple pleasures in life such as being in the company of family and friends, or quietly admiring the family Christmas tree with its lights and colorful decorations.  She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

     Miss Evanik was preceded in death by all of her siblings including brothers Charles, Michael and George Evanik, and by her sisters, Miss Mary Evanik and Mrs. Anna Hopkins.

     Left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews including her caregivers, George and Sharon Evanick,  their daughter Audra McGough and her husband, Thomas along with the four family dogs who brought her much happiness.

     The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be celebrated for the blessed repose of her soul on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 526 Church Street, Wilkes-Barre Township.  The Reverend Father Mykhaylo Prodanets, pastor will serve as celebrant.

     Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

     Relatives and friends are invited to join Helen's family for visitation and remembrances Monday morning directly at church from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
