In his spare time, and having a fondness for the outdoors, Jimmy was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying  the many trips he would take over the years.

In addition to his father, James Sr.'s passing in 2006, Jim was also preceded in death by a nephew, Heath Mitchell in 2006; By a brother Mr. Robert V. Mitchell in 2010 and by a brother-in-law, Mr. Mark E. Popeck in 2013.

Left to mourn his passing besides his beloved mother Leona at home, are sisters Mrs. Rosalie A. Popeck of Hunlock Creek and Mrs. Deborah M. Sotelo and her husband John of Shickshinny, and their children, Brina and Ryan; Brother Kenneth Mitchell and his wife Maryann of Cambria;  Several co-workers and dear friends.

Funeral services for Jim were held privately with a Funeral Mass in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville.

The Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, pastor served as celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal followed in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brook Street, Swoyersville.  There were no formal public visitation hours.

In lieu of floral tributes and for his love of animals, Jim's family would be humbled if those contemplating a memorial contribution in his memory kindly consider the Luzerne County S.P.C.A., 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
