Mr. James L. "Jimmy" Mitchell Jr., 66, a resident of Benton, passed into Eternal Life early Thursday morning in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville following prolonged heart disease.
Born July 17, 1951 in Kingston, he was a son to Mrs. Leona S. (Gashi) Mitchell and the late Mr. James L. Mitchell Sr. Educated in Shickshinny schools, he attended the Northwest Area High School and the West Side Vocational-Technical School, Pringle.
Until illness caused his early retirement, Jim was employed locally as a construction worker.
In his spare time, and having a fondness for the outdoors, Jimmy was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the many trips he would take over the years.
In addition to his father, James Sr.'s passing in 2006, Jim was also preceded in death by a nephew, Heath Mitchell in 2006; By a brother Mr. Robert V. Mitchell in 2010 and by a brother-in-law, Mr. Mark E. Popeck in 2013.
Left to mourn his passing besides his beloved mother Leona at home, are sisters Mrs. Rosalie A. Popeck of Hunlock Creek and Mrs. Deborah M. Sotelo and her husband John of Shickshinny, and their children, Brina and Ryan; Brother Kenneth Mitchell and his wife Maryann of Cambria; Several co-workers and dear friends.
Funeral services for Jim were held privately with a Funeral Mass in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville.
The Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, pastor served as celebrant and homilist.
Interment with the Rite of Committal followed in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brook Street, Swoyersville. There were no formal public visitation hours.
