Nancy Patsko Obituary

Miss Nancy Patsko, 75, formerly of Kent Lane, Wilkes-Barre and more recently a resident of Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke, passed into Glory Saturday evening as an emergency patient in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born August 6, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Minnick) Patsko.

Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1960 graduating class of the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre and furthered her education by attaining an Associates Degree in culinary arts from the Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke.  While at G.A.R., she excelled in ladies basketball and was the first female player to score 1000 points in her high school career for the team.

A lifetime member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre, Nancy was a member of the church choir and the Dorcas Guild.  She also shared her gift of voice with the Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish choir at Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, South Wilkes-Barre for over twenty years.

Enjoying singing, Nancy was a founding member of the "Sweet Adalines" harmony group the the Barbershop Harmony Chorus.  Proud of her Slovak heritage, she also held membership in the Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the North End Slovak Citizens Club, North Wilkes-Barre.

Until her retirement, she served as the Assistant Director of Volunteers for the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross in Hanover Township for more than twenty years.  She also volunteered her spare time serving with Meals on Wheels as well as "Christmas Together" at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre sponsored by the Committee for Economic Opportunity for more than twenty years.

Given her skills in culinary arts, Nancy was fondly remembered as a wonderful cake baker for countless friends and their special family occasions.   She was a woman of grace and humility who will be missed by all those she touched in this life.

Nancy was preceded in death by brothers Andrew, Paul, Robert, Kenneth and more recently Raymond Patsko as well as by her sister, Mrs. Irene Height.

Left to mourn her passing are her sisters Mrs. Dolores Kosek of Florida and Mrs. Jean Savelli and her husband Joseph of Binghamton, New York, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many wonderful friends including her caregiver, Ms. Judy McDonald of Hanover Township.

Memorial funeral services will be conducted on Friday morning, July 13th with services at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 663 North Main Street, North Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, her pastor will serve as celebrant.

Interment will be private in the family lot in Saint Matthew's section of Fern Knoll Burial Park, Midland Avenue, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join her family and friends for visitation and remembrances Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services directly at Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In lieu of floral tributes, Nancy's request was that memorial contributions in her memory, if desired, kindly be made to her beloved church, Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 663 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705 or to the American Red Cross Disaster Services, 256 North Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
