Mrs. Betty Ann (Machina) Jakubowski, 87, a life resident of Mountain Top, passed into eternal life late Friday evening while in the care of Smith Health Care, Ltd., Mountain Top, where she recently resided.
Born March 19, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of three children to the late Paul and Susan (Sabonis) Machina. Educated in the Mountain Top schools, she was a graduate of the former Fairview High School, and furthered her education by attending the former Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing.
Following her formal education, Mrs. Jakubowski took employment with the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, serving as a registered nurse in the obstetrics department for some thirty years prior to her retirement.
She was a faithful life member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre and was previously active in various church functions over the years.
She and her late husband, Mr. William E. "Jake" Jakubowski, enjoyed the several trips they shared to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and the New England states, especially Connecticut.
In her spare time, Betty Ann loved needle point and crocheting, sharing many of her creations with family and friends.
Above all, Betty is remembered most as being a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to her adoring family. She especially cherished the times she spent with her grandchildren, of whom she loved dearly.
Betty Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William on July 5, 2013. At the time of Mr. Jakubowski's passing, the couple shared fifty-four years of married life together. She was also preceded by brothers Robert and John Machina.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they have of her are her children, William Jakubowski and his wife Gina; Paul D. Jakubowski and his wife Susan and Elizabeth Hockenbury, all of Mountain Top; Grandchildren, Paul John of South Norwalk, CT; Sarah of Phoenixville; Noah and Joshua of Mountain Top; Several nieces, nephews, fellow congregants and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jakubowski will be held privately and at the convenience of her family from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street. The Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, pastor of Saint Matthew will serve as celebrant and leader of worship. Interment with prayers of committal will be next to her husband in Albert Cemetery, Mountain Top. There will be no formal visitation.
