Carmella Buynak Obituary

Mrs. Carmella M. (DeBella) Buynak, 88, formerly of the Parsons neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Friday morning in the Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton, following a recent illness.

Born on Thursday, April 12, 1934 in Pittston, she was one of eleven children to the late Patrick and Carrie (Tyrone) DeBella.  Educated in the Pittston schools, she was a member of the 1952 graduating class of the former Pittston High School.

Following her formal education, Mrs. Buynak was employed as a seamstress in the valley's former garment industry for several years.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, she previously held membership in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church prior to its closure and subsequent merger into the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette.  At Sacred Heart, she was active in various parish activities and could often be seen working the annual spaghetti dinners prior to the parish bazaars.

In her spare time, Carmella had a passion for cooking delicious ethnic dinners that she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.  She is best remembered for her loving, motherly ways; being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to her many nieces and nephews of whom she loved as her own.  Her presence will be missed by all those she touched in this life.

She was preceded by her husband, Stephen B. Buynak on March 3, 2012.  At the time of Mr. Buynak's passing, the couple shared fifty-six years of married life together.  Also preceding her were six brothers; Sam "Swimmy" DeBella, Ignatius "Iggy" DeBella, Nick Occhipinti, Carmen "Dales" Occhipinti, Joseph DeBella and Michael DeBella; and by three sisters, Sara Lennox, Catherine Mantione and Mary Montagna.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter Karen B. Spear, her husband Joseph and their son Matthew of Old Forge; Brother, Steven DeBella and his wife Dorothy of Exeter; Numerous nieces and nephews and her three grand-pups, Duke, Mina and Buddy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Buynak will be conducted on Wednesday with her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.  The Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.  Those attending services are asked to assemble directly at church Wednesday morning by 9:45 a.m.

Carmella's family invites their relatives and friends to celebrate her life by attending her visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre; where fond remembrances may be shared.
