Mrs. Carol Ann (Kotch) Swartwood, 80, a resident of the East End neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Monday morning while in the care of Riverstreet Manor where she recently resided.
Born June 2, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late Carl and Helen (Wassel) Kotch. Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1958 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and furthered her education by attending beauty school.
Following her formal education, Mrs. Swartwood opened the Carol Ann Swartwood Beauty Salon in East End where she spent countless hours taking care of her customers, making many friendships along the way.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, Carol Ann was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre. Professionally, she held membership in the National Cosmetology Association.
Mrs. Swartwood and her husband Eugene enjoyed traveling and camping. They took numerous trips cross country and enjoyed their yearly trips to Myrtle Beach. When she was at home, Mrs. Swartwood loved to watch decorating programs on television, or she could be seen cooking and baking. Above all, Mrs. Swartwood was devoted to and took great pleasure in being with her beloved family who will greatly miss her presence in their lives.
Left to cherish the memories they hold of her, in addition to Gene at home, are the couple's children; Kenneth E. Swartwood and his wife Carol of the East End Section of Wilkes-Barre, daughter Lynn M. Stephanick and her husband Paul of Glen Lyon; Grandson, Michael Stephanick and his fiancée, Jessica Lucca of Nanticoke and great-grandson, Ryan Stephanick; Brother Charles Kotch of Wilkes-Barre; Sister Janet Friel of Moscow; Several nieces and nephews, former patrons and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Swartwood will be held privately with her funeral Mass celebrated by the Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre. Interment with the Rite of Committal will be in the family lot at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no formal calling hours.
