Catherine Anderson Obituary

Ms. Catherine (Bednar) Anderson, 92, formerly of Browndale, Forest City and Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord Monday evening in Allied Meade Street Skilled Nursing Unit, Wilkes-Barre following a recent illness.

Born November 21, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of ten children to the late Andrew and Mary (Homza) Bednar.  Ms. Anderson was educated in the Wilkes-Barre area schools, and later earned her Associates Degree in Business from the Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke.

Until her retirement in 1990, she was employed by the Social Security Administration Wilkes-Barre office as a key punch operator and data transcriber for ten years.  Prior to that, she worked for the former Atwater Company and Muskin Pools of Wilkes-Barre.  Following her formal retirement, Ms. Anderson did not sit idle.  She took part time employment with the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre for several years.

Catherine was a life member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, and previously held membership in the Forest City Senior Citizens.  In her spare time, she enjoyed playing board games with her family and listening to her favorite music.  She is remembered as being a wonderfully loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her former husband, Mr. Floyd J. Anderson on September 17, 1987.  Also preceding her was a son, Alan J. Anderson; Son-in-law, Joseph Kotulski; Granddaughter, Angela Bell; Brother Andrew Bednar and sisters, including Mary Rekito, Anne Oliver, Irene Huray, Eleanor Sprague and Margaret Whipple.

Left to cherish the memories they hold of her are her children, Patricia J. Pevec and her husband John of Browndale; Beverly H. Smith and her husband Robert, Wilkes-Barre; Floyd J Anderson and his wife Lisa of Hunlock Creek; Kathleen A. Bell of Larksville; Deborah Kotulski of Wilkes-Barre; Tina Marie Siglin and her husband Glenn of Noxen; Mark A. Anderson of Benson, N.C.; Linda Sue Corcoran and her husband Steve of Wilkes-Barre; Mary Ellen Goyne and her husband Jerry of Dickson City and Paul M. Anderson and his wife Lisa of Muncy;  Twenty-six grandchildren; Fifteen great-grandchildren; Brothers, Paul Bednar and wife Marge of Dallas; Michael Bednar of Lopez; Sister, Sophie Bednar of Endwell, N.Y.; Numerous nieces, nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

Catherine's family would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. Ernest Julius and the staff of Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing for the care and compassion shown their mother while she resided there.

The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.  Relatives and friends are invited to join Catherine's family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Divine Liturgy.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations in Ms. Anderson's memory would be sincerely appreciated for the Salvation Army Citadel, 17 South Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
