Daniel Hadvance Obituary

Mr. Daniel Hadvance, 74, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's Rolling Mill Hill neighborhood, passed peacefully into eternal life Saturday night in the comfort of his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Sunday, January 15, 1950 in Wilkes-Barre, Daniel was one of fifteen children to the late George and Mary (Mikula) Hadvance.

Educated in the city schools, he was a 1967 graduate of the former Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Following his formal education, Mr. Hadvance proudly served our country during the Vietnam Conflict as an airman with the United States Air Force.  It was during his military service he and many of his fellow servicemen and servicewomen were exposed to the hazards of "Agent Orange"; which caused a myriad of health issues over the years.  He was honorably discharged from military duties on January 10, 1972 at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio, having earned the rank of Sergeant.

He began his working career with the former Acme Bakery in Wilkes-Barre.

Until his retirement, Mr. Hadvance was employed for over thirty years by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District as a well loved and respected bus driver.  He garnered many friends over the years; safely transporting students to and from school or countless athletic competitions.  He will be greatly missed by all those who were under his care.  Following his retirement from the district, Mr. Hadvance drove the bus for the Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre.  Most of all, Daniel is best remembered as being a loving, supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  May he now rest in the hope and peace of our Risen Christ!

In his spare time, Mr. Hadvance loved the outdoors and was an early riser when it came to fishing, one of his favorite pastimes.  When he was younger, he enjoyed coaching for the Height Packers mini football team.  Later in life, he and his wife enjoyed traveling together to various destinations.

Devoted to his Christian faith, Daniel was a member of Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hanover Township.  He also held membership in the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

He and his beloved wife, the former Marjorie Macri were high school sweethearts who shared fifty-five years of married life together, being wed on January 10, 1969.  Together, they raised a beautiful family, seeing their grandchildren grow into wonderful adults.

He was preceded in death by siblings including George, John and Richard Hadvance; Beverly Kowatch, Dorothy Ann Martinelli, Nancy Roche, Patricia Bottger, Evelyn Pisano, Infant Georgine Hadvance, and most recently by his brother James Hadvance on January 5th of this year.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of Dan in addition to his wife Marjorie at home are the couple's children, Paula J. Novosel and her husband Michael of Mountain Top and Daniel "Danny" Hadvance Jr., at home.  Beloved grandchildren; Michael D. Novosel, Morgan M. Novosel, Kaylee L. Henderson and her husband Matthew and Mason B. Hadvance; Several generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless dear friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Hadvance will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1000 South Main Street, Hanover Township with the Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, interim pastor serving as celebrant and leader of worship.

Military honors will also be accorded Daniel by members of the United States Air Force.

Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the Hadvance family.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
