Mrs. Dolores C. (Bombay) Bigus, 86, a lifelong resident of the Parsons neighborhood in Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life early Friday morning while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, following a recent illness.
Born December 14, 1933, she would have celebrated her eighty-seventh birthday next week. She was one of twelve children to the late Joseph and Stella (Scovish) Bombay.
Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Bigus was a member of the 1951 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Bigus held membership in Saint Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Parsons. For many years, Dolores served as the parish secretary for Saint Dominic’s under a number of pastors prior to the church's closure and subsequent merger. Following her tenure with the church, she became a bookkeeper for Solomon Industries for several years until her formal retirement.
Taking pride in her neighborhood, Mrs. Bigus previously was an active member with the Parsons Crime Watch program in the city.
She is remembered as being a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her adoring family. Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life. Above all, her biggest joy was her title as “Grammy”, as her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Daniel S. Bigus on February 26, 2008. At the time of Mr. Bigus' passing, the couple shared thirty-nine years of married life together. Also preceding her were brothers and sisters; John Bombay, Margaret Czarniecki, Edna Marinko, Dorothy Sauer and Michael Bombay.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold of her are her children, Steven D. Bigus of Kingston; Danielle Byers and her husband Troy of Parsons; Grandchildren, including Tristan, Mackenzie and Kyndall Byers; Sisters and Brothers; Marie Hunt, Pauline Dutter, Joseph Bombay, Elizabeth Hill, Eileen Woodburn and James Bombay; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bigus will be conducted on Wednesday with her memorial funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Saint Dominic worship site of Saints Peter & Paul Parish, 155 Austin Avenue, Parsons. The Reverend John C. Lambert, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
Relatives and friends may join the Bigus family for visitation and shared remembrances Wednesday morning directly at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
