     Mrs. Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Szymanski) Martin, 80, a lifetime resident of the Miners Mills section of the city, more recently of Golden Living East Mountain, passed into Eternal Life early Sunday morning while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, following a recent illness.

     Born July 6, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of six children to the late Andrew and Angela "Nellie" (Macaravage) Szymanski.  Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Martin was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Following her education, Betty took employment in the valley's former garment industry as a seamstress for the Rose Marie Dress Company in Wilkes-Barre.  Later in life, she was employed by Golden Living East Mountain for several years until her retirement.

     In her spare time and putting her talents to work, she loved baking, sewing and her various puzzle books.  Above all things, she is remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family who will dearly miss her presence in their lives.

     Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry in 2013.  At the time of Mr. Martin's passing, the couple shared forty-nine years of married life together.  She was also preceded by a son; Michael Martin in 1998; a grandson, Eric Joseph Yakabovicz on October 24, 2018; Siblings; Raymond Szymanski; Florence Wysocki; Tony Szymanski; Lilian Miskewski and Marie Kemmerer;

     Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold of her are her children, Lawrence "Larry" Martin Jr. and his wife Terry of Nanticoke; Angela "Angie" Yakabovicz and her husband Eugene "Whitey" of North Wilkes-Barre; Eight grandchildren, including Christina Yakabovicz and her companion Ian Dunsmuir; Brittany Walter and husband Philip; Melissa Kuchinski and her husband James; Zachery Martin and his wife Amanda; Mackenzie Martin and his wife Tara; Meaghan Martin and Olivia Martin;  Two great-grandchildren, Mattis Walter and Charlotte Martin;  Sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella Szymanski of Miners Mills; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Funeral services for Mrs. Martin will be conducted on Friday with her Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, North Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Plains Township.

     Family will receive relatives and friends directly at church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

     In lieu of floral tributes, Mrs. Martin's family would be humbled if those wishing to make a monetary contribution in her memory, kindly give consideration to the Alzheimer’s Association Wilkes-Barre Office at 57 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
