James Flannery Jr. Obituary

Mr. James F. "Jim" Flannery Jr., 52, a resident of Plains Township, passed into Eternal Life most unexpectedly early Monday morning while on a hunting trip in Sullivan County.

Born January 20, 1969 in Belleville, New Jersey, he was one of eight children to Mrs. Ann "Nancy" (Kelly) Flannery of West Pittston and the late Mr. James Francis Flannery Sr.

Following the family's relocation to the Wyoming Valley, they settled in Wilkes-Barre's East End neighborhood, where they became well-known, making many friends over the years.

Devoted to his Irish Catholic heritage, Jim graduated from the former Holy Saviour Parochial School; was a 1987 graduate of the former Bishop Hoban High School, and later became a 1992 graduate of King's College, all of Wilkes-Barre.  While at King's, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree toward his vocation in computer information systems.

Following his formal education, Jim entered a successful career spanning some twenty-nine years in information technology.  His most recent tenure was ten years with Frontier Communications as a Lead Information Technology Developer.

In his spare time, Jim loved the outdoors.  Being an avid hunter and fisherman, he passed from us doing something that he enjoyed in this life.  His presence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends and co-workers; as he brought laughter to everyone around him.  He certainly will be greatly missed by all those he touched in this life.

He and his wife, the former Bridget A. Bailey, celebrated twenty-three years of married life this past June 13th.

Besides his father Jim Sr. who passed on March 14, 2004, the family suffered the loss of his brother, David Flannery on October 24 of that same year.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories he leaves in addition to Bridget at home, are the couple's daughter, Bailey, a student at Penn State University; his mom, Mrs. Ann "Nancy" Flannery of West Pittston; Siblings, Irene Flannery of Kingston; Mary DeLucia and her husband Dan of Harding; Michael Flannery of Wilkes-Barre; Ken Flannery and his wife Jennifer of Palm Bay, FL; Stephen Flannery and his wife Amanda of Forty-Fort; Matthew Flannery of Berlin, N.J.; Mother-in-Law, Bonnie Robbins and her husband Paul of Plains Township; Father-in-Law, Francis Bailey and his wife Mary Louise of Nanticoke; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law including Shannon Bailey of Plains Township; Holly Banja and husband Ed of Wilkes-Barre; Dylan Robbins of Pittston; Ray Konetski and Carrie Konetski, both of Nanticoke; Daniel Bailey and wife Tessa of Chadds Ford; Nieces and Nephews including Billy Kimble; Genevieve Flannery; Trevor, Lilah and Clara Flannery; Brandon Stry; Autumn Konetski; Jaxon Banja; Francis, Harry and Glenn Bailey; Great-nephew, Will Kimble; Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, fellow Frontier employees and many dear friends.

Funeral services for Jim will be conducted on Saturday morning with his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Monsignor Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Moscow, and personal family friend will serve as principal celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.

Relatives and friends may join Jim's family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.  Those in attendance are kindly asked to wear facial masks.

In lieu of floral tributes, Jim’s family would be humbled if those contemplating a monetary donation in his memory, kindly give consideration to the Luzerne County S.P.C.A. 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 or directly at www.spcaluzernecounty.org.
