Jeffrey Martin Obituary

Mr. Jeffrey S. Martin, a resident of Hanover Township, formerly of Mountain Top, passed into eternal life unexpectedly the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12 at the home of his sister in Douglassville, Montgomery County.

Born April 11, 1959 in Somerville, New Jersey, he was one of three children to Mrs. Carol A. (Horensky) Martin-Matthews and the late Milton J. Martin.

Educated in the Mountain Top area schools, Jeff was a member of the 1977 graduating class of Crestwood High School.  He later furthered his education by attending Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.

Jeffrey was a life member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre.  He was the third generation of the Horensky family to be baptized into the faith by former longtime pastor, the late Reverend Stephan Tuhy.

Jeff worked as a painter with the I.U.P.A.T. District 21, local 2018.  During that time, he earned many certifications pertaining to his craft.

He was an avid Harley-Davidson motorcyclist and loved to ride, and took great pleasure spending time with his family and friends.  Jeff's presence will be sadly missed by all those he touched in this life.

Beside his father, Milton, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sally Smith Martin on June 8, 2010.   He was also preceded by his beloved grandparents, Stephen and Vera Horensky and John and Anna Martin.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold of Jeff, in addition to his mother Carol and her husband Marc Matthews of Punta Gorda, Florida are his son, Jeffrey S. Martin II of Pittston; Sisters, Hilary Hartman and her husband Tim of Douglassville, PA and Kimberly Dovidas of Deptford, New Jersey;  his companion Kim Reph of Hanover Township,  her children and grandchildren who called him “Pops”; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and their families; co-workers and dear friends.

Funeral services for Jeff will be conducted on Wednesday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street.  The Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, pastor of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, will serve as celebrant and leader of worship.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to his wife Sally in Albert Cemetery, Church Road, Mountain Top.

Relatives and friends may join Jeff's family for visitation and shared remembrances Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
