John Yurescko Obituary

Mr. John Yurescko, 93, a resident of Oakwood Park, Laflin, fell asleep in the Lord most unexpectedly Thursday afternoon at his residence.

Born on Monday, May 6, 1929 in Beaver Brook, Hazle Township, he was one of nine children to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Horchak) Yurescko.  Educated in the Hazleton schools, Mr. Yurescko was a graduate of the former Hazle Township High School, class of 1947.

Following his formal education, Mr. Yurescko took employment as a plumber and also served our country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  Following the war, he then was employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot for several years.  At the time of his retirement, Mr. Yurescko worked as an electronics radar technician for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton International Airport in Avoca.

In his spare time, John loved the outdoors. Previously was an avid hunter and enjoyed picking fresh blueberries locally.  He held membership in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre.

Above all else, he will be remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to his family.  He will be greatly missed by all those he knew and loved in this life; especially those he lent a helping hand to over the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Catherine I. (Kadilak) Yurescko on November 2, 2010.  At the time of Mrs. Yurescko's passing, the couple shared fifty-two years of married life together.  He was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers including Mary Rutowsky, Helen Kelchak; Andrew, George, Peter and Michael Yurescko.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Mrs. Nancy M. Suhan and her husband John of Lemont, Center County; Granddaughters, Chloe and Emma Suhan; Sister, Mrs. Margaret Alishofski of Sheppton; Brother Joseph Yurescko of Stroudsburg; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy for Mr. Yurescko will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Very Reverend Father Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist, while Professor Raymond Mastroberte will serve as cantor.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join Nancy and her family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
