Obituary

Mr. Joseph C. Loftus, 75, a resident of Hanover Township, passed into Eternal Life Friday evening, November 11th in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a recent illness.

Born on Sunday, September 28, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of two children to the late Joseph F. and Elizabeth (Frank) Loftus.

Educated in the Wilkes-Barre schools, Joe was a member of the 1965 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, and later furthered his education by attaining a Bachelor Degree in political science from Kings's College in 1969.

Employed in the local banking industry, Mr. Loftus began his career with the United Penn Bank, downtown Wilkes-Barre.  He later worked with the First National Community Bank.  At the time of his formal retirement, Mr. Loftus served as assistant manager of the FNCB branch located in Nanticoke.

In his leisure time, and prior to illness causing his diminished eyesight, Joe was an avid reader.  He previously held membership with the Rotary Club of Nanticoke.

A consummate father figure, he became well known and respected in his children's circle of friends for being the designated driver to concerts, sporting or social events the group would attend.

Above all else, he is best remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather to his adoring family.  His physical presence will be greatly missed by all those he touched in this life.

He and his wife, the former Bonnie Ward recently celebrated forty-one years of married life together.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they keep of him in addition to his wife Bonnie at home, are the couple's children, Kevin Loftus, PharmD and his wife Janelle of Mountain Top and Katie Angle along with her husband Donald of Larksville; His adoring granddaughters, Madelyn and Olivia Loftus;  Sister, Mrs. Patricia Davis of Kingston; Several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Memorial funeral services for Mr. Loftus will be conducted on Thursday evening, November 17th at 6:30 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to join the Loftus family for a time of visitation and shared remembrances from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services.
