Mrs. Lorraine L. Shurmanek, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed into eternal life Tuesday evening while in the care of Allied Services Hospice Center, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born on Friday, September 21, 1934 in Nanticoke, she recently celebrated her 89th birthday last month; being one of two children to the late Elmer and Margaret (Baldago) Sullivan.

Until her formal retirement, Mrs. Shurmanek was employed as an accounting clerk for P.G. Energy in Wilkes-Barre for several years.

Later in life, Mrs. Shurmanek kept busy being a consummate housewife; making sure her home was well kept and orderly.  She loved having her family gather for holidays and special occasions.

She is best remembered as being a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

Fraternally, and being the wife of a former airman, the couple held membership in the Sampson Air Force Base veterans organization.

She and her beloved husband, Mr. Anthony J. Shurmanek celebrated sixty-eight years of married life together on November 13th of last year.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Mr. John Sullivan.

Left to cherish the memory they keep of her in addition to her husband Tony, are the couple's children; Nancy Kerstetter and her husband Bill of Kingston; David Shurmanek and his wife Kindra of Wilkes-Barre and Pamela A. Povilitus and her husband Mark, also of Wilkes-Barre.  Grandchildren, including Lauren Kerstetter, Eric Kerstetter and his wife Alice, Brent Shurmanek, Nicole Kivak and her husband Chris and Brandon Povilitus along with his wife Becca; Great-grandson, Dalton Kivak; Several nieces, nephews, former neighbors and dear friends.

Per her previous request, funeral services for Mrs. Shurmanek will be held privately and at the convenience of her family from Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston.  The Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.
