Lorriane Lucas Obituary

Mrs. Lorraine E. (Ivan) Lucas, 85, a lifetime resident of the North End neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life Monday morning in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.     Born February 23, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Toloczko) Ivan.  Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Lucas was a member of the 1952 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Following her formal education, she was employed as a secretary with the United States Department of Agriculture, Wilkes-Barre regional office.  She was later employed with the former Pomeroy's Department Store on Public Square as an associate and gift wrapper. Afterward she was employed as an assembler with the Roth American Novelty Company until returning to secretarial employment.  She would finally retire as a secretary with the former Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company after several years of service.

A devout Catholic, Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre, having been a member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church until its closure.

Socially, when her children were young, Lorraine was quite active with the Parent Teacher Association at Sacred Heart Parochial School, and was a life member of the North End Slovak Citizens Club ladies auxiliary, where she served as an officer for many years.

Of all the responsibilities she held in this life, none seemed quite as important to her than her role as matriarch of her family.  Her family meant everything to her, and she relished watching her children's families grow into their own families over the years.  She loved caring for and babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  This love of family also extended to the many family in-laws she would welcome over the years.  Mrs. Lucas is remembered as being a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was an impeccable dresser, never missing a hair appointment.  She loved the Sunday dinners at her children's homes where she adored spending additional time with her great-grandchildren.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Eugene T. Lucas Sr. on November 7, 2012.  At the time of Mr. Lucas' passing, the couple shared almost sixty years of married life together.  Also preceding her were a son, Keith Lucas in 2007, and her brother, Mr. Francis Ivan.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they have of their mother are her children, Dr. Eugene "Gene" T. Lucas  Jr. and his wife Karen of Hunlock Creek;  Karen Scavone and her husband Ron of Ross Township; Daughter-in-law; Betty Ann Lucas of Plymouth;  Grandchildren and their spouses, including Dr. Nicole Middleton and her husband Don; Gina Harrison and her husband Bill; Alexandria Shaffer and her husband Andrew; Ronald D. Scavone and his wife Nicole; Jared Scavone and his wife Dr. Jaquelyn Scavone; Lora Lucas and her brother Keith Lucas Jr.  Great-Grandchildren; Verdana, Wolfgang, Olivia, Atticus, Acadia, Lilyana, Violet, Coltrane, Lucas, Madison, Jayden, Lettie and Kylie; Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends including Mrs. Bertha Delzeit and her hairdresser, Edie Sulkoski, both of North Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucas will be conducted privately and at the convenience of her family from the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Interment will be next to her husband Eugene in the family lot at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

There will be no formal public visitation.
