Matthew Flannery Obituary

Mr. Matthew Raymond Flannery, 35, passed into Eternal Life unexpectedly Thursday evening, November 10th, at his
newly-established residence in Wilkes-Barre's Rolling Mill Hill neighborhood.
Born on Thursday, March 26th, 1987 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of eight children to Mrs. Ann "Nancy" (Kelly) Flannery of West Pittston and the late Mr. James Francis Flannery Sr.
Educated in the city schools, Matt was a 2005 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
He then furthered his education by attending both East Stroudsburg University and Luzerne County Community
College.
Matthew was currently relocating to Wilkes-Barre from Philadelphia where he was employed as a contractor and also served as Housing Tech for Comeback S.Z.N. Recovery House in Berlin, PA.  He had just begun working with Howell
Blacktopping locally.
Matthew had an infectious smile that would brighten anyone's day. He was kind, thoughtful and would do anything for anyone. He loved to make people laugh, a skill he honed over decades of busting chops with his family. He loved a good nap and all types of music. You could often find him singing anything from Elvis to country music to Wu-Tang Clan, and like them, he was nothing to blank with. Matt had a very large collection of hats and sneakers, which allowed him to always dress to perfection and some might even say to look “sharp as a buck knife.” He always played sports and really enjoyed going to the gym, with hopes of one day soon becoming a personal trainer. He enjoyed all kinds of food whether he was cooking at home or going out. He loved the pets and watching movies. He loved his big Irish-Catholic family and how lucky he was to have so many friends, but mostly Matthew enjoyed spending time with "his girls." From playing board games to dancing in the kitchen, he’s described as “the best step-dad ever!” Matthew one day hoped to expand his family.
Above all else, he is best remembered for being a loving son, fiancé, brother, uncle and nephew to his family who will miss him greatly. His passing leaves a void in the lives of all those he touched.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father James Francis Flannery Sr. on March 14, 2004. Sadly, on October 24th of that same year, he would bid farewell to his brother David. Most recently, he was preceded by another big brother, James F. "Jim" Flannery on November 29th of 2021.
Matthew's memory will live in the hearts of his beloved mother, Mrs. Ann "Nancy" Flannery of West Pittston; his fiancée, Kristina Margalis and her daughter, Alexa May Cole; as well as his siblings; Irene Flannery and her son William Kimble; His brother Jimmy’s widow, Bridget Flannery; Mary DeLucia and her husband Dan; Michael Flannery; Ken Flannery and his wife Jennifer; Stephen Flannery and his wife Amanda;  Nieces and nephew including Bailey, Genevieve, Trevor, Lilah, Clara, and Will; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and those he helped as well as those who helped him in this life.
Funeral services for Matt will be conducted on Friday, November 18th with his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saints
Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. The Reverend Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Moscow, and personal family friend, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Those unable to attend may view a live stream of the funeral Mass on the parish YouTube page or the funeral home website.
Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the Flannery family.
