Mr. Paul C. Molnar, 86, formerly of the Brookside and East End neighborhoods of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord early Friday morning, January 15th while in the care of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton where he recently resided.
Born March 2, 1934 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of three children to the late Charles and Rose (Morocko) Molnar. Paul was a life member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre.
Educated in the city schools, he attended the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. Molnar left his studies to join the United States Army, proudly serving our country during the Korean War with the 1824th Headquarter Battery; 94th AAA Battalion. At the time of his honorable discharge from military duties on February 27, 1954, he was the recipient of the Army Occupation Medal in Germany and the National Defense Service Medal, earning the rank of Corporal.
Following his return stateside, he began his work experience with the former B.F. Goodrich Tire Company in Exeter as a re-spooler for more than thirty years. He later became employed with the Lion Brewery Inc., North Wilkes-Barre for eleven years until his retirement.
In his spare time, as the photo might depict, he was an avid walker who participated in marathons, earning a medal for his age class in the Yuengling Marathon at age 80. He also loved woodworking and tending to his annual gardens.
Mr. Molnar was preceded in death by his brother Ronald.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Mrs. Eugenia (Jeanie) Giza and her husband Gerry of Bear Creek Township; Several nieces and nephews including Larissa Soroka and her husband Jeff; Melanie Fellerman and her husband Greg and Stephanie Fuge and her husband Tim; Several great-nieces and great-nephews; Aunts, Mrs. Eugenia "Cookie" Jenkins, Wilkes-Barre and Mrs. Mary Soyer of Winter Park, FL; Several cousins, fellow parishioners and dear friends.
Paul's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of the North Penn Manor and the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center for their professionalism, care and compassion during his stay.
Funeral services for Mr. Molnar will be conducted on Wednesday, with graveside committal services at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas. Interment will be next to his mother, Rose in the family lot. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant.
Relatives and friends wishing to attend services are invited to join the family in the parking area of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street Wilkes-Barre no later than 10:30 a.m. Facial coverings are required to comply with current pandemic regulations.
