Robert C. "Bubba" Waters

     Mr. Robert C. Waters, 60, a resident of the Mayflower neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal rest early Wednesday morning in the comfort of his residence with his family at his bedside, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

     Born May 31, 1960 in Hornell, New York, he was one of nine children to Mrs. Wilma Waters, Troupsburg, New York and the late Mr. Charles P. Waters, who passed in 2007.

     "Bubba", as he was known to family and friends, was a 1979 graduate of the Troupsburg High School, Troupsburg, New York.  Following his formal education, in the fall of 1979, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  His military career began by attending boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  He then graduated from the Infantry Training School at Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he received the MOS of 0331 as a machine gunner.  Robert then reported for duty at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, where he was assigned to Echo Company; Weapons Platoon; 2nd Battalion; 6th Marines.  Robert would stay with this unit and completed tours on three Mediterranean sea floats aboard the U.S.S. Nashville; the U.S.S. Saipain and the U.S.S. Guadalacanal.  On this final tour of duty, he was part of the Multi-National Peace Keeping Force being sent to Beirut, Lebanon.  Robert and his fellow Marines would remain in Beirut from February until May of 1983.  Of their many duties while in Beirut, they would be called upon to respond, protect and render aid when the United States Embassy was bombed in April, 1983.  Robert was honorably discharged from military duties in September of 1983, earning the rank of corporal.

     Robert grew up and worked on his family dairy farm, Char-Will Farms of Troupsburg, New York.  Throughout his years, Bob worked on many dairy farms including Schreiberdale Holsteins, Perry, N.Y. and Ru-Ann Holsteins of Avon, N.Y.  Bob moved to Wilkes-Barre in 1998, where he took employment in warehousing as a fork lift operator and yard jockey for Keystone Distribution; Maytag; and Penske Trucking.  In February of 2020, Bob retired from Anixter Corporation of Mountain Top.

     In addition to his father Charles, Robert was preceded in death by a brother Wayne C. Waters and an infant sister, Jan Waters.

     Left to cherish the memories they have of him besides his mother, Wilma Waters of Troupsburg, N.Y. are his wife of twenty years, Dr. Laura Waters, at home; Daughter, Kristin Waters of Rochester, N.Y.; Son, Brett Waters of Caledonia, N.Y.; Step-daughter, Kelly Craver and her husband Adam of Wilkes-Barre; Step-son, Stephen Kofchak and his wife Lauren of Chantilly, VA; Grandchildren, including Harper, Makenzie, Matthew, Cassidy and Sadie. 

     He is also survived by Sisters; Sue Flint and her husband Dwayne of Jasper, N.Y.; Carol Smith and her husband Steve of Troupsburg, N.Y.; Brothers, Terry Waters; Roger Waters and his wife Karla; William Waters and his wife Kathy as well as John Waters and his wife Traci, all of Troupsburg, N.Y.; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, first wife, Darlene Taft Waters and many friends.

     Robert is remembered by those who knew and loved him as being a kind and loving man who knew no strangers and would give the shirt off his back to help others.  Most of all, he was a beloved Pappa and Gpa to his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

     Funeral services for Robert will be held privately and at the convenience of his family with no formal visitation.  Interment will be in Whitesville Rural Cemetery, Whitesville, New York.
