Rose Mary Lynch Obituary

Beloved aunt, educator and friend, Miss Rose Mary Lynch, 86, passed into eternal life early the morning of Sunday, March 15th while in the care of Embassy of East Mountain Skilled Nursing Center following a recent illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of two children to the late John and Elizabeth (Sharaba) Lynch.
Educated in the city schools, she was a 1957 graduate of the former Saint Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre. Miss Lynch furthered her education toward her vocation by attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from then College Misericordia in Dallas; and later her Master of Arts degree from the University of Scranton.
Rose Mary dedicated her life to the growth and enlightenment of her students, leaving an indelible mark on generations of young minds. She began her teaching career with the Diocese of Scranton; serving as a parochial schoolteacher for Saint Jude Parish School, Mountain Top. She later took employment with the Hanover Area School District as a first-grade teacher in the Hanover Green Elementary School; a position she held for some forty years until her formal retirement. Miss Lynch received numerous accolades for her extraordinary teaching abilities.  She vowed no one would leave her classroom without mastering the basics of reading.

Professionally, she held membership in the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association. Fraternally, and proud of her ethnic heritage, Rose Mary was a member of the Slovak Catholic Ladies Association.

Upon retiring from the school district, she realized how greatly she missed the daily joys of teaching.  This longing caused her to return to work part time at the Catholic Youth Center in their after-school daycare program for several years.

Though never giving birth herself, Rose Mary was a “mother figure” to so many; giving love, care and compassion to those she touched in her lifetime.
Devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, she previously held membership in Holy Family Parish of Sugar Notch until its closure and subsequent merger with Saint Leo the Great Parish of Ashley.  She shared her faith by teaching Catechism at several parishes over the decades.

In her spare time, she loved buying fresh flowers to quietly beautify the final resting places of family and friends.  Family and friends were always thrilled when she made for them her famous pasties.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mr. John J. Lynch Sr.; nephew, Mr. John Lynch Jr. and infant niece Elizabeth Lynch.
Left to keep all the memories they now share of her are her sister-in-law, Mrs. Dolores Lynch and nephew, Michael Lynch, both of North Wilkes-Barre; Niece; Annmarie Lynch and her husband Wayne Davis of Cinnaminson, New Jersey; several dear friends and countless former students.

Miss Lynch’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge the exceptional staff of Embassy at East Mountain for their professional, caring concern for her well-being, especially in her final days.  Aunt Rose Mary was extremely fond of the caregivers and thought of them like family.
Funeral services for Miss Lynch will be conducted on Friday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Vincent H. Dang, pastor of Saint Leo the Great Parish, Ashely will offer Liturgy of the Word. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation, shared remembrances and prayers directly at the funeral home Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
